Our Father’s words
I was 23 in 91 callused and tough needed no one To get me down
Ladies and liquor were my best friends both said they’d be there till the end
I found myself alone ------ wishing I was back home
I heard the ringing of the telephone they said God called your daddy home
He finally had enough ------ he left a box of his old stuff
I dove right in looking for gold the only thing inside King James wrinkled and old
And an old-bible school-photograph my lost mind went back
**Chorus**
As I heard my father’s words
They brought back memories from a simpler time long ago
Grandma’s Sunday dinners and my dog Spot
That 10 point buck and advice I forgot
When I left home and walked out on my father’s words
**Verse 2**
I was going to wind up in jail or dead voices like a river raging through my head
But one stood out ---- on the back of the photograph
He wrote “Son I’m always hear for you, if you come up short, you know what to do
So I put the bottle down ---- and picked the gospel up
I left sin city and went back home on bent knees confessed of all I done
with cleansed eyes I could finally see what had been waiting for me
**Chorus 2**
As I read my Father’s words
They told sacred stories from a time ago
Of how God sent His only Son
To cleanse the sins of everyone
Who accept Him and believe in His Father’s words
**Bridge**
Its ten years later I have a son of my own
I told him “Boy don’t take on this world alone It’ll get you down “
“When it all seems to close in on you” “Remember the one thing you have got to do”
“Inside these worn pages you’ll find the truth the words our Father spoke to you”
**Chorus3**
As he heard our Father’s words
His innocent young eyes looked like mine long ago
I pray to God that I raise him
To be a better man than I had been
When I had a lost soul I pray he listens to our Father’s words
Yes help him Jesus to hear our Father’s words
